San Francisco Bike Expo

Being a lover of all things bike I decided to make my way up to the Cow Palace for the SF Bike Expo this past Saturday.  It was amazing to see such a diverse crowd of dirt jumpers, fixie hipsters, artisans, and racers.  Not to get all “kum bay yah” on ya all but it is always good to see the cycling community come together at events like this.  There is definitely a common greasy chain that connects us all.

This year the expo was divided into the traditional swap meet (individuals unloading their piles of collected cycling junk from the years to bike shops and rental companies get rid of last years products at good discounts) and a more corporate side with companies selling original, new goods.  There were a lot of good deals to be had if you were looking for a higher end used bike, slightly used components, or new old-stock parts.  Through out the show there were some amazing artisans showing off hand built frames, clothing, and goods as well.

Renovo was showing some amazing hardwood crafted bikes

Just below the expo in the rodeo grounds there was also a cross race with a spectator friendly run up, decent, and set of barriers and a BIG dirt jumping contest.  It was pretty cool to see the cross guys dropping the hammer as the dirt jumpers launched 40+ feet into the air.  It was definitely a good time and something I will definitely be back at next year.
